J/80 Thursday Night Series
REVISED Notice of Race – 2013

Invitation:  J/80 Fleet 1/The Lake Winnipesaukee Sailing Association, Inc. (LWSA) (the organizing authority) invites all members of the J/80 Class Association to participate.

Rules

Races will be governed by the “rules”, as defined by The Racing Rules of Sailing, which, by definition, include the US Sailing Prescriptions, the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules (available at www.j80.org/rules.php), this notice of race, and the sailing instructions.

Both series are designated as “Open” events as defined by paragraph C.2.2 of the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules.

Eligibility: 

Each series is open to any J/80 class boat that meets the eligibility requirements of the class rules, registers, and pays the fee. In addition an owner or skipper of the boat must be an LWSA member.

An Owner’s Declaration as specified by paragraph A.12 of the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules is required to be on file prior to the first race.  A pro-forma Owner’s Declaration is presented in Appendix H4 of the Class Rules.  Please prepare a copy of this form and submit it along with your entry fee.

A valid National Class Association Sticker (NCA) must be affixed to the transom of the hull.  (Paragraph B.1.1 of the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules.)

Sails must have the class-royalty patch affixed.  (Paragraph G.2.3 of the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules.)

Participating boats shall strive to observe the Crew Weight requirements (Paragraph C.3.1 of the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Rules.)

Participating boats shall be required to volunteer one regular crew member for one night of assisting the race committee (regular is defined as participating more than 3 nights).  Failure to comply will result in the boat being scored DSQ in that evening’s races.  A boat may choose to use it’s byes on their evening fulfill this duty, however a crewmember must still be present.  Switching nights with other boats will be allowed, but it is the responsibility of the skipper to make these arrangements. A volunteer schedule shall be created by the Fleet Captains after registration is complete.

Entry and Fees

There will be a $135 fee per series ($125 for US Sailing Members).  Instructions for registering are available at www.lwsa.org/j80/register

No boat will be scored (other than DNC) for an evening until an owner is an owner-member of the J/80 National Class Association, until an owner is a member of the LWSA, and until either her paper registration forms (including Owners Declaration) and payment are received (or postmarked) at least one day prior to the evening to be scored or her online registration is completed and payment received before the scheduled beginning of the evening’s races, except that for the purposes of the May 16th race a owner may register for the spring series no later than 5:00pm May 17th and be scored for the May 16th race.  The race committee will not accept any registration paperwork or fees.

Schedule:  Regattas will be held on the following Thursdays, commencing promptly with a warning at 17:30EDT unless otherwise noted below.

        Notes: Warning signal for all nights will be 17:30, with the exception of July 26.

                   July 26 is a Friday and part of WYC Race Week with a 1500EDT warning.       

September 13, 14, & 15 (J-Jamboree) each yacht’s best 3 races only, minus non fall series                competitors, will be scored.  In cases where the J-Jamboree Notice of Race (NOR) and Sailing Instructions (SI) conflict with the Thursday Night Series Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions the J-Jamboree NOR and SI shall control.

                  

Sailing Instructions:  Prior to the first night of racing, Sailing Instructions will be available on our website at www.lwsa.org/j80/.

Venue and Courses:  The race area will be established at either the areas east, south, or west of Welch Island or at Sanders Bay, both on Lake Winnipesaukee.  The course to be sailed will be comprised of windward and leeward legs.

Penalty System:  Rule 44.2 is changed so that the Two-Turn penalty is replaced by a One-Turn penalty.

Scoring:

The Low Point Scoring System in Appendix A of the racing rules will be used. 

Six races shall constitute a series. 

The first three races of each day or night will be scored.

Each boat’s series score will be the total of all its scores, discarding the worst score if more than six races are held in the series.  The maximum number of discards allowed in a series will be one. This changes rule A2.

Byes: Each boat will be entitled to receive her average score (after 1 discard as described above) for all races of one regatta (night) in which she was scored DNC.  Details will be addressed in the Sailing Instructions.

Awards:

An awards ceremony and dinner will be held in October at a TBD place.
