In 1999, the LWSA sponsored informal Laser racing on Wednesday evenings. The core of this event was students and graduates of the youth sailing school using Lasers from the LWSA Sailing School. LWSA members were welcome to sail any extra boats. Anyone with a Laser was welcome to join in on any evening. The boats left Smith cove at 6:00pm. Participants could launch from the sailing school or simply join the group on the water. Sailing was usually around a small course set up east of Lockes Island or in Sanders Bay between Lockes Island and Varney Point. The starting system was three minute whistle starts and the course was verbally hailed from the committee boat. All participants were required to wear a coast guard approved PFD.
